As We Gather
The disciples of Jesus were afraid, hiding out. More than that, they were stuck. Their hope, their master, the one whom they had called Lord, was gone. For them, everything had come crashing down in a matter of hours. Now, huddled together behind locked doors, they waited. But for what? Their end, time to form an escape plan? Unbeknownst to them, the Lord was about to circumvent any obstacle that impeded him from being with them. In the midst of their sorrow, Jesus was about to stand in their midst, risen, triumphant, and ready to empower them with power from on high. He would even change Thomas’ unbelief to faith! This day too, Jesus comes into our midst and blesses us with His gifts of faith, life and hope through His mighty word.

Pastor Mike’s Bible Class
The Early Church and the Nicene Creed – Resumes May 11
What is the history and meaning of the creed we speak together in worship most Sundays? In this multi-week study, Pastor Mike will be looking at the first four centuries of the Christian Church, leading up to the writing of the Nicene Creed. The class will resume on May 11 as we look at the church in the 4th century.
Sanctuary Lighting Upgrade
Let There Be Lights!
The long overdue project to update and enhance the lighting in the sanctuary is here! What is included in this upgrade?
- LED lighting throughout the sanctuary, replacing the incandescent lights and original fixtures.
- Enhanced lighting of the chancel (front of the sanctuary) for better visibility.
- Updated controls and integration with the worship tech station
- Better cameras for recording and streaming that can easily be controlled by worship tech for pan, tilt and zoom.
The Board of Directors has approved funds from the Michael Thomas bequest for a portion of this project. We are inviting the St. John’s community to support the rest. Our goal is $50,000. If you would like to make an offering to “Let There Be Lights,” please indicate on your check or online that it is for the lighting project.
Notes From Our Director of Youth
Thank you to everybody who supported our Youth by joining us at the Easter Breakfast. It was a beautiful morning of praise and celebration! We hope you enjoyed dining with us and the congregation. See you next year!!
Confirmation Sunday is right around the corner, May 4. You’re invited to join us for regular worship on Sunday morning, but you’ll catch a glimpse of what Jesus is doing in the lives of our Confirmation students. Please join me in praying for them as they get ready to share their story with the congregation.
Please join the volunteers at the Mission Farm on Saturday, May 3, at 9:00 a.m. for prayers for God’s blessings upon the fields, the seeds, the planters and nurturers of the crops, and the harvest of fruits and vegetables to be sent to the Napa Valley Food Bank. The rite itself is brief. There also will be an opportunity to join the experienced gardeners in planting a second section of corn. Bring your kids and your “inner child”. We appreciate your support.
