Advent is a season of anticipating and celebrating the coming of our Savior. We remember the people of the Old Testament, waiting for the coming of the Messiah. We celebrate with joy the coming of our Savior to us today through His Word and His sacraments. And we look forward to our Lord’s coming in glory with watchful anticipation. Tonight’s service focuses on six familiar Advent hymns that give voice to this advent faith. These hymns point to the meaning of this season and the call to watch for the coming of the Lord. Before singing each one, we will consider its background, meaning, and message for us today.
